Sunscreen Data: Consumer Power Mini-project
Students explore a consumer database that catalogs almost 1500 sunscreen products according to human and environmental safety. It was just updated for 2020! Join us for this 30-minute demo and receive materials in OER format (Google docs), making them modifiable by teachers. Best for strong readers Ages 12-13 and students Ages 14-16. Science, Math & STEM teachers welcome. We'll cover:
- Connections to EM spectrum, waves, absorption spectra, consumer power, global regs & expert guidance on sunscreens
- Related student reading tasks (active reading)
- Student queries in the database
- Guided activity with sections for whole-class, individual and partner work
- The data-driven decision making (consumer power) students will practice
- Related Sustainable Development Goals (#TeachSDGs)
